The Swiss gearing up to vote against minarets has elicited worldwide protests against religious freedoms. Many religious groups of the non Islamic faith feel what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Many Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia ban the building of places of non Islamic worship, including the possession of any holy book. The reference, when in Rome.......live as a roman.....seems appropriate when living in each respective country.
Some countries are judged by their human rights record, as it is a measure of how many choose to live and immigrate to another country, versus how many choose to leave a country for another. Freedom and democratic majority rule are the norm in democratic countries.
It is strange this story of the Swiss conducting the same Redneck rampage gets world wide media coverage, yet nary a response is heard when the Saudi's and other similar countries practice the same rule of law. Perhaps a slow news day or media political correctness gone awry? It's a safe assumption it's the latter of the two.
The golden rule, commonplace in middle east religions such as the Holy Bible, Koran and Talmud all preach,"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The "Do unto others" certainly seems lost by those religions who preach benevolence, yet practice everything but.
Will there ever be a time when the worlds two largest religions on the face of the planet ever come to terms over their prophet's original purpose of peace to all mankind and agree to a mutual acceptance of both prophets? It's been said both prophets are mentioned in each others holy book.
It seems no end in sight will ever come to fruition when both sides have been fighting for a millennium.
Perhaps PLO boss Yassar Arafat said it best when as he once said; "No peace can come about, as both sides feel their imaginary friend is more powerful than the other".

were are the chruches in saudia arabia. why are they burning churches in egypt and takes years to build a single church in egypt with so many obsticles that it is impossible to build a church in egypt. it works both ways, why is the western media bias on this issue, or is there a more important issue "oil money"
I'm swiss and i cant really understand whats happenin right now...
I wasn't really interessted in this topic but i mean the swiss peoples vote against the minarets and thats how it works... Thats democracy! And yeah i love switzerland for that... and yeah if they wanna stop it, they will have much problems but with the own peoples cuz its AGAINST democracy!
Ok that was my statement straight from zurich, oh yeah and sorry for my bad english... long time ago since i talked english last timee
In the end we all have an interest in maintaining our societies and our heritage. We integrate foreigners assuming that they come to our countries because they are seeking a better way of life. Too often they fight the battles of their former countries in ours. If the Swiss people have spoken, it is their country and they have the right to choose what is and isn.t acceptable to their values.
Thank you both for your insights on this story, much appreciated. Certainly there must be a resolve, unfortunately there are those who are unbending in this case. Like they say, when in Rome..........
Thank you Kader, one can be sure oil may play a part, but preserving one's cultural landscape seems to be part and parcel of western culture, just as it is for Islamic culture. Many in the West and Islamic countries state people are free to leave if the status quo is not to their liking.
You may want to rethink your claim about the golden rule in the koran - it doesnt appear there.
