Swim free at Barton Springs Pool every morning

One of Austin’s true treasures is Barton Springs Pool, and now that summer is upon us, the cold, clean water is as inviting as ever. But did you know you can swim there for free?

Most swimmers go to Barton Springs during the afternoon hours, when admission is $3 for adults, $2 for kids aged 12-17, and $1 for children under 12 and seniors. But if you go between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., admission is free.

There is no lifeguard for the first few hours, from 5 a.m. until 8 a.m., each morning, but starting at 8 a.m. guards are present. The hours of operation for the pool are 5 a.m.-10 p.m., seven days a week, though the pool is closed on Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. for cleaning.

Parking is $3 per day March through September.

Your article has gone viral! I posted the link on the Free Fun in Austin Facebook page and now I have seen it all over Facebook and Twitter! Woo hoo! Thanks for sharing such great info. You rock!

My husband and I used to do this when our first baby was three months old. He would swim while I sat with the baby and then we would switch - 30-45 minutes in that cold pool was about all we needed! Then we would be off for the day refreshed and ready for life. there is no way we could've done that 3-4 times a week if it wasn't free.

Wow, thanks, Heidi! I'm glad so many folks are interested! And CtyExamines, the cold water will definitely wake you up for the day! I'm glad the city makes the pool available this way.
