One of Austin’s true treasures is Barton Springs Pool, and now that summer is upon us, the cold, clean water is as inviting as ever. But did you know you can swim there for free?
Most swimmers go to Barton Springs during the afternoon hours, when admission is $3 for adults, $2 for kids aged 12-17, and $1 for children under 12 and seniors. But if you go between the hours of 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., admission is free.
There is no lifeguard for the first few hours, from 5 a.m. until 8 a.m., each morning, but starting at 8 a.m. guards are present. The hours of operation for the pool are 5 a.m.-10 p.m., seven days a week, though the pool is closed on Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. for cleaning.
Parking is $3 per day March through September.
