Swerve Fitness: Team Inspired Indoor Cycling

Google Images

Swerve Fitness is creating a lot of buzz amongst fitness lovers in New York. With fitness studios popping up all the time it's hard to standout in the fitness industry but Swerve Fitness does just that with team inspired spin classes! Continue reading my interview with Co-Founder Eric Posner to learn more about Swerve and how you can sign up!

How does Swerve differ from other spin classes?

SWERVE is the world's first team inspired indoor cycling workout. Each class is divided into three teams (red, green, blue) that compete against each other during class through a series of intervals, hills, and team drills. State-of-the-art performance tracking technology allows riders to view their personal metrics on the bikes console, but only the team's average SWERVE Score (total energy output over the class) is displayed on the interactive scoreboards in class. SWERVE isn't just a cycling studio, we're a cycling community and we built not only our concept but our studio itself with this in mind. Unlike our competitors, the main level of the studio features a smoothie bar with cafe seating so riders can hang out with friends, colleagues or other riders pre and post workout.

Why did you feel a need to create a class format like the one offered at Swerve?

Co-Founders, Eric Posner, John Henry McNierney, and Chelsea Kocis were working in corporate jobs after college when they began taking clients to fitness classes as an alternative to the traditional restaurant or bar outing. It was a great way to bond with clients and they really enjoyed the camaraderie and accountability that came along with working out as a group. As former college athletes, the founders realized that this was exactly what was missing from group fitness and cycling in particular: team competition.

Have you always had a passion for the health and wellness industry?

All three Co-Founders have been athletes all of their lives and played Division one lacrosse. Eric at Harvard, John Henry at Lehigh and Chelsea at UPENN. Eric's parents run a Wholistic wellness center on Long Island, so nutrition has always been a big part of his life.

What are people saying about Swerve?

People love the team concept because it's incredibly motivating without being intimidating. SWERVE is the hottest new cycling studio to hit NYC and was recently named in the press:

- One of 'The Best New Boutique Gyms in America' - Details Magazine

- One of the 'Best Gym and Health Clubs in NYC' - TimeOut New York

- One of 'NYC's 7 Most Talked About Fitness Studios of 2013' - Well+Good

- 'Top 20 Hardest Fitness Classes in NYC' - RateYourBurn

What's next for Swerve?

In a couple of weeks SWERVE will be releasing the ability to receive performance statistics after each workout. When riders log into their account they can also view past history. Keep watch for more tech updates and how we plan to make fitness even more social. As far as expansion goes, we plan to open a number of studios in the next few years. Keep your eye out!
