Atlanta, Ga.'s SweetWater Brewing Company has not let their famed "Dank Tank" go empty for long. The brewery recently filled and emptied that flaming fermenter with the latest in their Dank Tank series of one-off beers, Red Hot Mama.
Red Hot Mama is an Imperial Red Ale that clocks in at 8.6% ABV. Utilizing a malt bill of Two Row, Pilsner, Cara Munich, Chocolate, Midnight Wheat, and Wheat malts, and hopped up with over two pounds per barrel of fresh, wet Centennial hops, along with Chinook, Cascade, Willamette and Mt. Hood additions, this Hot Mama is a wet, sticky monster with just enough of a sweet side to soften her edge.
The lore behind Red Hot Mama is, as with most beers in the series, something to behold. As the label tells it,
The Red Hot Mama from Yakima was one bad *itch, running through farmers like they were her personal toys. She especially had her way with our old buddy Vinny from Van Horn Farms and left him drained in the field as she hitched her way out of town with a dress full of fresh hops.
This Red Hot Mama was not one to mess with. She hooked up with a Harley Gang, and made her way down to Atlanta looking for a soul to steal. She met her match with El Danko, and the two of them got nasty in the brewhouse together; clothes and hops were flying all over the place. The load of fresh centennial hops was dropped, and Nick Nock scrambled to use 'em as they smelled extra dank! After hosing off, El Danko showed her the door. He knew he didn't have enough left in him for another round.
Ride on, Red Hot Mama. Girl, you sure look good to me!
Red Hot Mama hit Augusta shelves and taps over the past two days. You'll find it on draft at Rooster's Beak in downtown Augusta, and 22-ounce bombers are available at Toast Wine and Beverage in Martinez.
Hurry up and snatch some up while you can, because this Red Hot Mama isn't looking for commitment!
