On Sunday, February 17 at 2 p.m., SweetWater Brewing Company (195 Ottley Drive, Atlanta, Georgia) will celebrate their sixteenth anniversary in radical fashion with an 80's themed Sweet 16 Bash at the brewery.
February 17th will mark sixteen years to the day that SweetWater opened their doors and started providing the people of the Southeast with their mighty tasty brews. To celebrate an occasion such as this, SweetWater will be throwing a party themed after the greatest decade of all time: the 1980's. Get a group of friends together and come dressed as your favorite 80's movie ensemble, band, cliché, or whatever gives you the warm and fuzzies when you think of that time. Although 80's attire is not required for the event, the added incentive to participate is that the best dressed group in attendance will win a private party at the brewery for sixteen people. Who doesn't want that?
Beyond all the 80's awesomeness, this event will of course center on the beer. SweetWater has brewed a beer especially for their anniversary aptly named 16th Anniversary Ale: Red Wheat Wine Ale. This brew weighs in at 11% ABV and is made with 45% wheat and hopped with Amarillo, Willamette, Nelson Sauvin and US Golding hops. Along with this new brew, SweetWater will also be serving many treats from the past that will include the following:
- Dank Tank Ghoulash Double Black Double Dry Hopped Double India Pale Ale
- Festive Ale (2011 and 2012 vintages)
- Happy Ending Imperial Stout (2011 and 2013 vintages)
- Brett Creeper
- Brett Raspberry Creeper
- 15th Anniversary Ale
- Dank Tank Big Ol' Belgian Blue Balls
- Dank Tank BSP Quad
- and three (3) unique casks
If all that amazing beer and the 80's awesomeness was not enough for you, there is more. Live music will be provided by Yacht Rock Revue, food trucks will be on hand to serve up fantastic grub, the brewery will be open for you to explore, and there will even be a cake cutting at 4:20. Sounds like a recipe for perfection to me.
Admission to the event gets you access to everything mentioned above, a commemorative 15 oz. pub glass, and ten (10) drink tickets so you can sample the tasty brews. Tickets for this event are $16 for presale or $20 at the door on the day of the event. With that said, tickets will be limited so there are no guarantees that any will be available day of the event. To avoid any issues or confusion, I suggest you just do yourself a favor by clicking here and arranging your advance tickets as soon as possible.
I was at SweetWater's anniversary party last year, and I all I can say is that it was one hell of a good time. These folks know how to throw down and all indications are leading me to believe that this year's party may even surpass last year's level of awesomeness. If you are free this Sunday, believe me when I say it is without a doubt worth the short drive to Atlanta so that you can be a part of this event. Do not over think it. Just dust off those leg warmers and meet me at the brewery on the 17th. Prost!
