SweetWater Brewing collaborates with Breckenridge Brewery on special brew

The SweetWater boys recently took a trip to Breckenridge Brewery in Denver, Co. to brew up O'Tay, a red wheat wine.

Atlanta, Ga.'s SweetWater Brewing Company and Denver, Co.'s Breckenridge Brewery have collaborated on a special brew.

Called O'Tay, the beer will be a dry-hopped, red wheat wine-style ale inspired by Breckenridge's spring seasonal, Ophelia Hoppy Wheat, and SweetWater's own red wheat wine that was created in celebration of the brewery's 16th birthday.

“I really enjoyed our 16th Anniversary Red Wheat Wine Ale and I think this brew is going to pair well with the Mosaic hops and malted Buckwheat, two ingredients we’ve never worked with before,” said SweetWater Head Brewer Nick Nock. “I’m looking forward to getting back up there to get my hands, and lips, on it!”

O'Tay will be tapped for a sneak peak at Colorado's Collaboration Festival on March 22, and will really make its debut at the Denver Craft Brewer's Conference, April 8-11.

Sadly, the beer will not be making its way to Georgia, so in order to get your hands on some, you'll need to be in Denver the week of the conference.

SweetWater has collaborated with other entities on brews in the past (such as Second Helping IPA, the recent collaboration with The Giving Kitchen), but the brewery has not had a history of collaboration brews with other breweries -- and a brewery representative has confirmed that there are not currently any other collaborative brews in the pipeline. Perhaps the good folks at Breckenridge will return the favor and come on down to Atlanta to brew up a batch with the SweetWater guys and gals and head up a pub crawl through Atlanta.

I'd definitely raise a glass to that!
