Nearly a month after SweetWater Brewing Company celebrated their sweet sixteen in grand fashion at their Atlanta brewery, the beer brewed and released for that special occasion -- 16th Anniversary So Fine Red Wheat Wine Ale -- has finally made its way out of the fermenters, through the bottling line, out to United Distributors and onto the shelves and taps of local Augusta beer havens.
This year's anniversary release, a red-tinged Wheat Wine-style ale brewed with 45% wheat and clocking in at 11% ABV, was originally scheduled to hit markets by the end of February, but issues forced a delay of its release. The release of the 16th anniversary brew, which originally coincided with the release of the next beer in the Dank Tank series, Some Strange II Black India Pale Ale (which I announced back in November), forced the brewery to schedule that beer for a later release, and now it would seem that Some Strange won't hit shelves for at least another month or two.
To grab 'hold of the sweet sixteen ale, head over to Toast Wine and Beverage in Martinez, North Augusta Wine and Beverage across the river in North Augusta, or to get the goods on-tap, head downtown to Rooster's Beak, where it began pouring today.
With the release of their massive celebratory ale also comes something a bit better suited for the warming weather of spring: Road Trip Ale, the spring seasonal in SweetWater's Catch and Release series, is replacing winter's Happy Ending Imperial Stout. From the press release:
Made from Pilsner and Vienna malts and brewed with Cascade, Sterling and US Golding hops, Road Trip finishes with hints of citrus and herbal hoppy notes ringing in at 5.2% alcohol by volume. Unique for most pilsners, Road Trip is actually fermented at warmer ale temperatures giving it fuller flavor, capped with an intense, spicy hop finish.
“To me the Road Trip is a perfect springtime beer, great for outdoor activities like sitting by the pool or even mowing the lawn,” says SweetWater’s head brewer Nick Nock. “This is our version of a pilsner so it has a light, crisp body with a great hop character, which gives it a zing of spiciness.”
Six-packs of Road Trip will begin popping up very soon, and you can expect to see the brew on-tap at locations serving up SweetWater's seasonal wares, such as The Pizza Joint in Evans and Rooster's Beak in downtown Augusta. Road Trip will also debut in the Tackle Box mixed 12-pack. Hop on for the ride while you can, because Road Trip is only available until May!
