'Sweetheart' in danger after sitting for months behind bars

Update 4/19/14: Rescued by Smiling Dog Rescue!

A pit bull who manages to survive for months at the Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control in Baldwin Park, Calif., is practically a miracle...this type of dog is not known for lasting long at the facility.

Somehow, "Gemma," has managed to beat the odds, but her time is running out.

The following words have been shared about this beautiful, one-year-old dog:

Gemma is a well-socialized one year old gray and white female Staffordshire Terrier puppy who was found in Baldwin Park and brought to the Baldwin Park Shelter on January 22nd. Weighing forty-eight pounds, this eager-to-please pup tugs a bit on leash, and could use some additional training. We think she would be delighted to be in a home with children, and she seems to do nicely with other dogs. Gemma is a marvelous indoor pet and companion for an active family living in a private home.

For all intents and purposes, Gemma is still just a pup - she has an entire life ahead of her and she appears to have the type of temperament that would allow her to meld well into most households.

Please take a moment to network on Gemma's behalf, before she is lost forever.
