Faith and Hope
Today we are inundated with different ways to stay healthy. The contradictions on what to do and what not to do, do’s and don’ts on eating and exercising are overwhelming.
Losing weight, eating disorders and stress have become in most cases vehicles for the many moneymaking band aides on the market. It has come to a place where all the expert opposing views can sometimes after unsuccessfully trying them all lead a person to disregard any hope at all of believing in any remedies. We hear of simple people living normal day-to-day lives finding themselves ill, physically deficient, or emotionally distraught over spending large amounts of money to try and achieve (ineffectively) good health.
One trying to extend his or her good years is quite different than someone who has been given a medical death sentence. While one can only imagine the fears below the surface that accompany this kind of report, as people of Faith we house something deep inside that seems to surface when needed. HOPE! The anticipation that we can be healthy and remain healthy can be found buried deep inside of us even when someone insensitive sees us and tells us how horrible we look. These types of negative personalities serve as an antidote to Faith, Hope and good living.
You may begin your day filled with faith and hope and suddenly someone you cross paths with makes a comment about you that begins to tear away at your positive attitude and energy. Along with the sadness that brews inside of them they have the audacity to suggest something they read or better something they are selling to help you look and feel better. After a while this can lead one to question true friendship along with finding them selves swimming in a faithless pool of hopelessness.
Certainly we know that there are regimens out there and some products that are good. Certainly we know that there are negative people that mean well and certainly we know that a few years of research on the internet does not compare with the many years that a Physician invests in their medical schooling. Notwithstanding there is one thing that cannot be denied. “Faith carries healing energy and hope”
Those fighting for hope (some would argue), is not about the religion you embrace as much as it is having Faith that breeds long lasting hope. In spite of the many futile things we try and/or the negative people surrounding us, faith has a way of drowning out failed attempts and hope has a way of keeping us energized to keep the fight for victory.
Buddha said: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.” In the Christian scriptures: Jesus is found saying to the centurion man about his servant: “Go your way; and as you have believed, so be it done to you. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.” In the Hebrew Scriptures we find: Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he... the choice is yours how you want to be. In Deuteronomy. 30:19 it specifically says: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life...”
Jewish doctors like Moses Maimonides (known as Holistic before it was an overused term) associated healing with basic religious duty. Maimonides (also known as Rambam) was a brilliant physician who believed in treating the patient first then the illness. Never claiming to be a Psychologist, his view of the process of healing was first an issue of faith. One works with the other as when the body is healthy and sound, one directs their life toward righteousness and good. There are many more examples we have of in biblical scriptures and profound philosophy dealing with Faith and Hope. Regardless of your religion, faith will infuse you with Hope and the stronger your faith, the less impact negative energy and disappointments will have on you.
SWEETEN YOUR LIFE AND YOUR CHALLENGE WITH FAITH
It is the respectful and cautious opinion of this writer that we all need to learn to sweeten our lives with faith. Faith and Hope is the foundation that leads to good health and healing. Treat yourself first or the medicine prescribed just may not work the same. We may agree to disagree on our religious preferences however we will all agree on this; if you live in doubt and surrounded by negative energy your fight will be focused on solidifying your doubts instead of strengthening your faith. Whether our challenge is physical, mental or emotional, it is the looking inward first that will inevitably sweeten the waters of your life. Stop letting others create your environment. Do not be afraid to fight with Faith and Hope will soon find you where you are. When we take the time to cleanse our minds of the negative input and thoughts others negativity cannot influence what has become a pillar inside of us.
You can make it and you will if you keep the faith you have or once had living in your heart. Remember what Adonai said to Zerubbabel in Zecheriah 4:6 ? "It is not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit"
