Sweet treats and more at Sugarcreek Township Winter Market

Have you been to the Sugarcreek Township Winter market? Fresh eggs and meats, breads and cookies, local honey, pickles, preserves, granola, and more are offered on the third Friday of every month from 3-5 pm until the regular season begins in May.

The slideshow will give you a sampling of what was available at the February 2012 market. The next Winter Market will be held on Friday, March 16th, 2012 from 3-5 pm in the usual location: the parking lot of PetSmart at 4333 Feedwire road just east of the intersection of Wilmington Pike.

The February market was held on a very pleasant (for February) day, and the Fressa truck was again on hand with a variety of offerings for snacks and light meals, including a grilled cheese sandwich with apple jam and bacon, homemade chips and smoky tomato soup. Heather’s Goodies had their usual beautiful assortment of fruit glazes and specialty chocolates, along with their latest addition, sweet cherry preserves. Samples of several of their homemade preserves were available. Webb Valley Farm brought their grass fed meats and farm eggs; they are always happy to explain the differences between cuts of meat and recommend an appropriate selection. You can talk to them about their eggs and free-range hens as well.

The Rolling Pen brought artisan breads and cookies from scratch, including potato bread, rosemary bread and the newest addition, Mountain bread, which contains a nice mix of wheat and rye. Peppercorn shortbread and nut-free granola was available as well. Baked goods from the Rolling Pen are all handmade, using the highest quality organic ingredients.

Ray Alley from Chris’ Honey had a fine selection of local raw honey and fresh bee pollen, and is always pleasant and happy to chat with customers. With 30 years of experience in beekeeping, Ray can answer all your questions about bees and their products. National Trail Farm was on hand with their diverse selection of baked goods and homemade noodles and their ‘homegrown’ eggs. National Trail Farm also brings meat containing no growth hormones or antibiotics.

Sugar-free homemade granola was available from yet another Sugarcreek Market vendor in a variety of flavors including coconut!

Stop by the Sugarcreek Township Winter Market March 17th from 3-5 pm and see for yourself what an active market this is, all winter long!
