SUSIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!
Susie was part of a trio of dachshunds that were dropped off at a rural shelter in Northern California. Rescue bailed them out as soon as they were available and got them into foster home.

All three were in bad physical shape, but Susie looked the worst. Due to untreated flea dermatitis, she had lost most of the hair on her back and tail. She was missing so much hair that we couldn’t tell if she was a dapple like one of her companions or if she was a black-and-tan dachshund. She also had a bad sinus infection from rotten teeth, and her eyes were glazed over and dazed, probably from shock. She was emotionally shut down from her horrible experience. Unfortunately, Susie's condition is not unique in rescue.
The first thing we did was get rid of the fleas and treat her dermatitis, and then we had her rotted teeth removed and the remaining teeth cleaned. Good food, tender loving care and a soft bed in the house also made a huge difference. She's in great health now, and her coat has grown in soft and thick. We found a gorgeous black-and-tan doxie under all that missing hair. Look at what a difference there is from her "before" picture!
Now that Susie feels good, she has come out of her shell and shown herself to be the sweetest little dog. She gets along very well with the dogs in her foster home, but because she is focused on her person, she could easily be an only dog. She would also love the attention of gentle children.

Susie when she first came into rescue
Susie sleeps in her crate without complaint, but she would much rather sleep under the covers with her person. She is house trained as long as someone takes her out for regular potty breaks; she goes right away and is ready to go back in the house for more snuggle time.
Susie enjoys taking walks, even short ones. She is good on the leash and curious about her surroundings. She is very interested in getting the cat, but has never done so. She jumps right in the car if the door is opened and is so disappointed if she can't go for a ride. She will also chase the laser beam with the other dogs, getting very excited without quite knowing why. She's an adorable girl with lots of personality.
