Sweet Mona’s in Langley celebrates seven years of creating divine chocolates

Mona and Tony Newbauer had a great celebration at Sweet Mona's’s at 138 2nd Street in Langley on February 17th, celebrating their 7th anniversary of making heavenly (or is it divine?) truffles and other chocolate creations. Visitors were able to sample chocolates and take their choice of any seven chocolates in the case for just $7.

Sweet Mona’s Chocolate Boutique originally opened on February 17th, 2006 as 1 Angel Place, Chocolate Bar. Today, Sweet Mona’s is thriving as a gourmet specialty chocolate shop featuring handmade chocolates and confections, gelato and an espresso bar.

Originally, Mona offered everything from bakery to breakfast, but in December 2010, she decided to focus on what she does best—chocolate. She and Tony created a retail plan to set Sweet Mona’s Chocolate Boutique on the road to success with a vision to “Sweeten the World.” The shop has a full complement of candy makers, counter staff, sales and shipping people. They have expanded their wholesale reach throughout Whidbey Island.

In 2012, Sweet Mona’s enjoyed record breaking sales through the retail store, the addition of a stronger web presence, and more wholesale customers. This will be their third year on Amazon.com, and their Internet sales have nearly doubled from when they first created their web presence. Sweet Mona’s will break the million dollar mark in total sales in 2013.

Mona comments, “This year I plan to do the work to continue the dream--to create a financially successful chocolate shop and replicate it.” She and Tony are planning to do a feasibility study to open a second location; they are creating a business plan, finding funding, and following through with what needs to be done. She adds, “It will take a miracle, and that's what Sweet Mona's has been built on--miracles big and small just when they are needed most. “
