Elizabeth, the sweet South Carolina thrown into an open fire by an evil 13-year-old boy, has died. The Darlington County Humane Society issued the following statement December 3 on their Facebook page.
"We lost Elizabeth at 12:30am this morning. Our hearts are just breaking over the loss of this sweet girl that we had ALL rallied around from near and far."
Elizabeth had "crashed" twice yesterday afternoon, but had rallied back. She was a fighter, and was loving to the end. Darlington County HS staff was heartbroken when they got the call saying she'd passed away.
Elizabeth didn't die alone. Her vet was by her side as she made the journey to the rainbow bridge.
Darlington County HS announced it will be creating an "Elizabeth's Fund" to help with her expenses. Caring for Creatures, who had arranged for Elizabeth to travel to their sanctuary, will create a similar fund. Elizabeth didn't die in vain, and other cats will be saved by these two organizations.
In honor of Elizabeth, Caring for Creatures will select an equally deserving cat from Darlington either today or tomorrow. This lucky cat will be chosen today and make the trip to their Virginia sanctuary tomorrow.
As for the 13-year-old monster who did this, I feel no sympathy whatsoever. May karma deal out a fitting punishment for what he's done.
The articles written on Elizabeth for Examiner are listed at the end of this article as suggested reading.
Rest in peace, sweet kitty. You didn't deserve any of this.
