What better destination for a lesbian vacation that an island called Isla Mujeres … island of women. And April 30 through May 7, Sweet, the lesbian travel company that just celebrated its third anniversary, will host 120 women … a whole resort full.
“Isla Mujeres is an amazing, amazing resort and it is a great value,” explains Sweet founder and CEO Shannon Wentworth.
“We are taking over the whole entire resort 120 people…it is all you eat and all you can drink for a week and it is right on this gorgeous, calm beach… we have our own private dock … there are pelicans fishing right in front of your chaise lounge…
“There is a huge pool with swim up bar…every room has a double Jacuzzi tube in it so it is very romantic all room s have a balcony … there is even a pool table outside.”
As Sweet has shown on its previous trips, their vacations are also about giving back and Isla Mujeres has lots to offer in that area, too. “We found so many projects…. We are going to do is an economic development project with local crafts’ women. They are going to come in and teach us how to make these cool purses out of pop tops… We are also working with a special needs school which is down the street … funded by donations for all of the special needs kids on the island. The government doesn’t actually provide any help for them… They have no resources for them except for one hour a week of therapy that they government pays for.
“We are also working with a ceramic artist who moved to Isla Mujeres from Colorado and she has devoted her entire existence to saving puppies … People bring litters of puppies to her and they are sick and flea infested…. She had 46 puppies on site … they need interaction so that they make good pets so we are going to pet them and socialize them and flea comb them a little bit… it is a really cool facility.”
The group will also do a beach cleanup... “It is an amazing gorgeous shoreline,” Wentworth adds.
Comedian Bridget McManus will be on hand to entertain and guests will also find discounts on spa, golf and excursions.
