Summer just got a little sweeter. Everybody’s favorite frozen yogurt sensation, Sweet Frog, is coming to Kings Dominion. The Richmond-based self-serve frozen yogurt company that has taken over the frozen treat world will open its first-ever theme park location in the spring of 2013.

Sweet Frog at Kings Dominion will offer a large selection of fat-free, sugar-free and gluten-free frozen yogurt options. Flavors include such tasty choices as mango, red velvet, cotton candy, peanut butter, pineapple and peppermint, as well as many others. Of course, chocolate and vanilla are usually on the menu. There are also dozens of topping to choose from, such as fresh fruit, granola, gummy bears, chocolate and caramel topping, crushed candy bars, candy pieces and much, much more.

The Kings Dominion branch of Sweet Frog will be located outside of the Woodstock Express, formerly known as the Ghoster Coaster and more well-known as the Scooby Doo coaster, in the park’s newly expanded Planet Snoopy area.

“We saw an opportunity to have another location in Virginia and were intrigued with the idea,” said Sweet Frog Director of Marketing, Victor DiPace. “With Richmond being the home base of Sweet Frog, what better place to have a location than at an amusement park in our own back yard? It is a perfect combination of entertainment, family and kids having fun.”

Sweet Frog jumped into the Richmond scene in 2009 when CEO Derek Cha hand-picked the city to start his frozen yogurt business. Sweet Frog now operates nearly 200 stores nationwide, including the Outer Banks of North Carolina. More expansion is planned for 2013.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with such a local iconic brand that our guests can relate with and will be a great addition to our new Planet Snoopy children’s area,” said Kings Dominion Director of Marketing John Taylor. “Planet Snoopy is sure to deliver new and exciting experiences for the entire family with the addition of eight new rides and many enhanced guest amenities.”

Theme parks and sweet treats always seem to go hand-in-hand (or hand-to-mouth, as the case may be). Just think of Disney’s delicious Dole Whip or the icy goodness of Rita’s Italian Ice. The addition of Sweet Frog to Kings Dominion will be a welcome treat in this Examiner’s opinion. Dig in!

Kings Dominion opens for its 39th season on March 29. The multi-million dollar expansion of Planet Snoopy will set the scene for the season as the largest PEANUTS-themed children’s area on the planet. Planet Snoopy will encompass nearly 14-acres and include a mix of 18 new and re-themed rides designed for families to ride together.
