An upstate dog is in need of donations after being rescued with potentially fatal health issues, Facebook reported January 14.
Carmen Klapper in known in the Greenville, South Carolina area as a rescuer of dogs in critical condition. When Kathy Medlin contacted Carmen with the story of Tommy, Carmen knew she had to help this dog.
Tommy, a sweet yellow lab, is currently in critical condition, and has tested high heartworm positive. He also has an enlarged heart, is full of parasites, and was basically starved with no food or water.
Tommy also had to survive the coldest night of the year last week, alone with no protection from the elements or food to nourish his emaciated body.
It was by accident that Tommy was even rescued. Kathy was searching for a house and heard a dog barking down the road. That dog was Tommy, who was found in a kennel with a padlock on the door. A neighbor told Kathy the owner hadn't been seen for two weeks.
It's a miracle Tommy was even alive, especially after surviving the Arctic air blast that came through upstate South Carolina last week.
X-rays were taken, and Tommy was admitted overnight for treatment. Right now Tommy is receiving much needed fluids and medication. Carmen hopes with a lot of TLC, Tommy will survive the physical horror that comes from being neglected.
A fundraiser has been set up at YouCaring to help pay for Tommy's vet bill. At the time of this article, $745 of $1,200 has been raised toward his care. This amount could go higher, depending on the treatment needed to save his life.
Please donate if you can, and share Tommy with your friends. You can donate toward his care by clicking here.
