Swedish royal family attend Parliament opening

The entire Swedish royal family was brought together by duty this morning as they attended the annual opening of the Riksdagen (Swedish Parliament).  Obviously on hand, as they always are, were TM King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.  During the opening the King gave his traditional speech which partially focused on the tragedy in Norway:

“The open democratic society's response to such hate and terror must be to counter with more openness and democracy.  We must continue to argue for tolerance and freedom.  And, we have a responsibility to support the positive initiatives taken to promote good will and collaboration.”

Attending on his 38th birthday was HRH Prince Daniel who escorted his now visibly pregnant wife HRH Crown Princess Victoria.  Perhaps the biggest surprise was that both TRH Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine also attended with the rest of their family.  The Prince is home from his continued schooling and Princess Madeleine who has yet to return to her Project Manager job in America.  All the royals traditionally wear black on the occasion of the opening of parliament as it was the hue worn in the 18th century, and they continue that tradition today.
