Sweatpants have generally been looked at with the view articulated by Jerry on an episode of Seinfeld, "You know the message you're sending out to the world with these sweatpants? You're telling the world: 'I give up. I can't compete in normal society. I'm miserable, so I might as well be comfortable.'" This statement no longer holds true. The Spring 2010 collections of Alexander Wang, Band of Outsiders, and others have introduced sweatpants as fashion forward.

Alexander Wang introduced sweats in loose classy yet undeniably comfortable style perfect for a day out no matter where ones destination is this spring. Band of Outsiders did an impeccable job on transforming sweatpants to dress pants. Their perfectly tailored terry lined pants would fit in at the office or the couch.

While the exact pieces from Wang and Band of Outsiders may not be economically feasible for most, tailored terry sweats from Band of Outsiders are running at $405 and Wang’s sweats at about $345, many people already have a closet full of comfy, lounging around at home sweats. The challenge for those fashion fiends out there is to take their own sweats to the next level, be brave, and to conquer sweatpants as street style.
