If you are one of the many Angelenos vowing to drop a few pounds this new year, the Sweat Garage is a newly opened gym dedicated to trimming waist-lines and carbon footprints.
Unlike most gyms, Sweat Garage does not have any membership fees. Workouts are based around one-hour paid classes with certified personal trainers. Due to the nurture-based training method and elimination of the dreaded binding contract, Sweat Garage has already become a hot spot for those who have never joined a gym in the past.
What really puts the “icing on the cake” at the Sweat Garage is their steadfast commitment to a feel-good and sustainable workout experience. When entering the gym, you may notice that there is no bottled water to be found. Instead, stainless steel bottles (above) and complimentary usage of a purified water system by LifeSource are offered. There are no paper towels in the bathrooms; rather, energy-efficient Xlerator Hand Dryers are installed for your convenience. The Sweat Garage floor is made of 100% recycled rubber tires.
The passion and luster behind the Sweat Garage is attributed to the gym’s fearless lead trainer and founder, Christopher Slevin. After working as a trainer at a high-profile LA gym for several years, Slevin was struck with Guillain-Barré syndrome, an extremely rare disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system, and was completely paralyzed within a week. After spending nearly three months in the hospital in early 2009, Slevin was released in a wheelchair and immediately got to planning for his recovery and vocational future. One year later, Slevin recovered well enough to walk again and founded the Sweat Garage!
“It was the most powerful experience of my life. I learned so much, from total surrender and acceptance to embracing the GBS in order to get better. One thing is for sure, I couldn’t have started Sweat Garage without having gone through it” - Christopher Slevin, Sweat Garage.
The Sweat Garage is located near West Hollywood in LA’s Fairfax District and is open seven days a week with morning, afternoon and evening classes. For more information on the Sweat Garage or session times and pricing - click here
