Cursing toddler: Boy removed from family home after video goes viral

A Nebraska toddler has been taken from his home and put into child protective custody after a video appeared online of him repeating profanities that were told to him. The Inquisitr reported on Jan. 9, 2014, that the swearing toddler video didn't bring about any type of criminal charges, but it was enough for the child to be removed from the family's home.

In the video, a toddler is in diapers and walking around. Numerous adults begin hurling obscenities, profanities, and racial slurs out, all the while laughing and getting the small child to repeat what they are saying to one another.

At one point, the child knocks over a chair and laughs. While laughing, the toddler shows a raised middle finger and says "Shut up, b*tch." The adults laugh and get him to repeat other profanities.

Authorities have said that there was nothing criminal in the video, but Nebraska Child Protective Service and Omaha police's Child Victim Unit took the swearing toddler and three other children out of the home and into custody.

The Omaha Police Officers Association has been under scrutiny lately from the city's police chief, ACLU, and at least one community leader. Sgt. John Wells, the union's president, said the video was both "offensive" and "disturbing."

"The focus here isn't on any particular ethnic group. The focus here is on the troubling behavior towards this child," Wells said. "This behavior is going to potentially lead this child down a path that is completely unhealthy."

The video had been posted on a website where the union said the clip came from "a local thug's public Facebook page."

Becki Brenner, Executive Director of the Nebraska ACLU, has condemned the showing of the video and said that the situation "has done nothing but further erode community trust."
