The public is invited to attend the Swearing-In Ceremony for two new members to the City Council elected by voters on November 5.

Current City Treasurer Edwin Hernandez and Lynwood Unified School District Board Member Jose Luis Solache will join re-elected incumbent City Councilwoman Maria Teresa Santillan-Beas on the dais during the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting on Tuesday, December 3, when the three will be sworn into office.

Set to take place at its regular time of 6 p.m. in Bateman Hall for the inauguration, Hernandez and Solache will be replacing outgoing City Council Members Ramon Rodriguez and Jim Morton. Rodriguez, who has served on the City Council for about 10 years, did not seek re-election and Morton lost in his race to keep his seat. Morton served a four year term.

According to LAVote.net, Solache was the highest vote-getter in Lynwood on the Nov. 5 election with 1,413 votes. Hernandez came in second place with 1,218 votes and Santillan-Beas came in third place with 1,117 votes.

As of yet, it is unclear what both the City Council and the School District will do to fill both the City Treasurer’s seat and Solache’s seat on the School Board. The City Council and the School District’s Board of Education can either appoint individuals to finish off the terms of the two seats or call for Special Elections.

Reorganization of the City Council, in which a new Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem are to be nominated and appointed by a majority vote by Council members, will take place immediately after the Swearing-In.

The Swearing-In Ceremony takes place on Tuesday, December 3, at 6 p.m. at Bateman Hall, located at 11331 Ernestine Ave. in Lynwood. The ceremony, which takes place in conjunction with the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting, is open and free to the public.
