SWAT situation ends peacefully in Columbus

A dangerous SWAT situation in West Columbus Ohio ended peacefully before daylight in the early morning hours of January 10. Columbus police were called to a home in the 300 block of South Highland Ave. shortly after midnight after receiving a 911 call regarding shots fired. When police arrived on the scene, officers learned that a man was holed up on the second story of the home and that at least two adults and two children were also inside. WBNS 10-TV reported that the man had begun firing at some of the other people inside the home. The people inside the home were able to get out without any injuries. Columbus police began trying to negotiate with the man who apparently was upset over a domestic situation.

Numerous officers were on the scene with guns of their own visible. Eventually, police had to use tear gas to try and coax the unidentified man out of the home. After several minutes the man emerged and was taken into custody.

When police entered the home in the Highland Ave. home, they recovered at least a half dozen guns. It is not known if any of those guns was what the man was firing earlier, prompting the initial report. Police were still processing the scene several hours after the man was arrested.
