SWASHBUCKLE’s Admiral Nobeard demands you see his Top Ten Favorite Horror Films

With Halloween a little over a week away, we are ushering in the season with some horror-centric features to get your blood spilling! First up, the good Admiral Nobeard, frontman and bassist for NJ’s finest pirate-metal combo SWASHBUCKLE offers up his recommendations for a frightfully-festive movie-watching experience.

  1. THE EVIL DEAD/EVIL DEAD 2 - Technically considered the same movie just about, this was one of my favorites growing up and still gets watched on a monthly basis. Nothing beats Bruce Campbell in a cabin just getting f***ed with by the forces of evil. Sam Raimi was a f***ing beast behind that camera and knew when to scare and knew when to throw the campy factor on hard.
  2. ARMY OF DARKNESS- Again, one of my favorite movies ever. So many great one-liners and so utterly hilarious that it still cracks me the f*** up every time I watch it. Bruce Campbell just makes Ash out to be the ultimate badass and it rules just seeing him be a f***ing goon.
  3. DEAD ALIVE - One of the best zombie movies ever. Also some of the greatest kill scenes as well. Lawnmower death! Peter Jackson just kept it overly hilarious and overly gory, and it kept me watching over and over again and again.
  4. DAWN OF THE DEAD - A classic. George Romero takes the zombie apocalypse to a whole new level and really plays it on peoples addictions to consumerism. Besides, it rules when a zombie gets decapitated by the helicopter.
  5. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 - One of the best slasher flicks around. This was a legit horror movie, suspense-driven and had legitimate scares. The burlap sack was what made Jason so fearful, until that hockey mask bullsh** came in. It was raw and gritty and it f***ing ruled.
  6. A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET - The OG, son! Any movie where Johnny Depp f***ing dies in a literal blood bath is going to make my top ten list. Robert Englund as Freddy was the best choice ever, utterly hilarious; overly badass.
  7. John Carpenter’s THE THING - This is and will always be one of my favorites. Who can you trust? Which one of them is one of those things?! The special effects were killer and so gory. Kurt Russell's finest role and JCs best movie. F*** HALLOWEEN; this was the best.
  8. I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE - One of the most uncomfortable movies to watch...but also a pure classic.
  9. NIGHT OF THE DEMONS - Just a good ol' 80s horror movie about sh***y teens getting drunk in a house, and they get possessed by demons and kill off each other. Some pretty good effects for an 80s low budget piece of sh** and also my favorite one-liner ever "Eat a bowl of f***; I am here to partyyyyyyyy!"
  10. MANIAC - It’s just so raw and bizarre that it deserves a spot on my top ten. Tom Savini made this movie with the shotgun blast scene and it rules just seeing how awkward and creepy this movie gets as it goes on.
