Swamp restoration set for February 6-7 at Bayou Chinchuba

The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL), St. Tammany Parish Government, Shell, Restore the Earth Foundation and the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration have a cypress tree planting scheduled for Bayou Chinchuba on February 6-7, 2013. The goal of the project is to restore habitat and improve flood protection and water quality.

The event organizers are looking for hearty volunteers to plant 500 cypress seedlings in the restoration project area. Tools and gloves will be provided to the volunteers. Volunteers can sign on to work for one day or both.

For more information about this and future projects, log on to the CRCL web site.

Louisiana is losing coastal wetlands at an alarming rate. These wetlands serve as fertile fishing and hunting areas, wildlife viewing areas and hurricane protection barriers. Great efforts must be made now to stop this tragic loss.
