An SUV was nearly swallowed when a water main broke while a man was driving through Smithtown, N.Y. The terrifying incident happened around 3 a.m. on Jan. 15. The man, who has not been identified as of yet, manage to escape and he was not injured despite his SUV being almost swallowed.
According to ABCNews, the water main break was especially powerful because of its horizontal position. Basically the pipe split along its length, explained Timothy Motz, director of communications for the Suffolk County Water Authority.
The cause of the break is being attributed to extremely cold temperatures and it also disabled running water for 26 homes in the area.
Stringer News was able to get a picture of the SUV that was almost swallowed and later posted it on Twitter. Just by looking at the photo, one can only imagine how terrifying of an ordeal this must have been for the man.
