Both stepped up and helped the the USA put away the Czech Republic 5-2 Wednesday at Shayba Arena.

Suter recorded three assists. Each one of them helped the USA build a three-goal lead late in the first period and second period, including the primary assist on the game-winner by David Backes.

Backes scored the eventual game-winner by beating Ondrej Pavelec on a sharp-angle shot off a shot by Suter that carom

Zach Parise capped Suter’s assist run by beating the Czech defender to a rebound off the end boards and knocking the loose puck under Pavelec’s pad. That goal ended Pavelec’s night. He stopped eight of 12 shots.

James van Riemsdyk, Dustin Brown and Phil Kessel also scored for the USA.

Ales Hemsky scored both Czech goals, one that came from his stick and one with help from the USA defensemen. His first goal came early in the first period to tie the game at 1-1. He was credited with the goal, but it was scored when Ryan McDonagh tried to clear the front of the net. The clearing attempt, however, hit Suter’s skate and ricocheted into the net.
