SustainIndy Announces Date for Post Holiday Recycling Event

The holiday season is a time of Christmas trees, gifts and joyous celebrations. All those presents and parties come with an environmental cost though, as tons of paper plates, wrapping paper and Christmas trees will be tossed in the coming weeks.

Fortunately, not everything that is thrown away will end up in local landfills. The Indianapolis Department of Public Works and SustainIndy have announced the date, time and locations for the city’s sixth annual post holiday recycling event. This year’s event will take place on Saturday January 14, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the following locations:

  • Broad Ripple Park - main entrance
  • Ellenberger Park - pool parking lot
  • Krannert Park - 605 South High School Road
  • Garfield Park - Family Center parking lot

These collection sites will accept the following items:

  • Live Christmas trees
  • Electronics
  • Cardboard
  • White styrofoam
  • Paper that can be shredded (5 box limit per car)

No other items will be accepted at this event.

Volunteers are needed at Ellenberger, Krannert and Garfield parks. The Broad Ripple site is fully staffed. If you're interested in volunteering to help out, please click here.
