Let’s start with the name: P’cheen. It’s an old word, according to co-owner Kieran Neely, brought here by the Scots and Irish who settled in the Appalachian Mountains and began making a distilled spirit we know today as moonshine. So it’s not surprising that P’cheen International Bistro jumped at the chance to offer moonshine to their customers when it became legal in Georgia last year. Now they have dozens of varieties, even infusing flavors in house. Try apple pie or bacon infused moonshine.
And if the old school alcohol isn’t enough, try the food dished up by Executive Chef and co-owner Alex Friedman. He uses onlythe highest quality meats, raised from humane, sustainable and area sources like Springer Mountain Chicken, Niman Ranch Pork, and Brasstown Beef. And they have the best and most authentic fish and chips in the city.
P’cheen just celebrated 6 years at the corner of Highland and Sampson. They are located next to the Highland Bakery in the historic Old Fourth Ward, just at the top of the hill from Inman Park. Friedman runs the kitchen, while Neely, operates the front of the house and keeps the tunes going, spinning music himself or from some of Atlanta’s best DJs. It’s part bistro and part pub, a mixture of great food, eclectic cocktails, craft beers, boutique moonshines and one of the best lounge scenes in Atlanta. It has become known as the place to go for an affordable evening with a friendly and trendy atmosphere.
Once the weather warms up to stay, Chef MikeLaSage, pit master for Mike’s Bone-Lick BBQ, will again host Monday night fare. Personally, I can’t wait.
P’cheen is one of the restaurants on the Atlanta Culinary Tour of Inman Park and the Old Fourth Ward, offered the third Saturday of each month.
