Bottom line:
You may keep chickens, and all kinds of other animals it turns out, as long as they are kept in enclosures at least twenty-five feet from neighboring homes. They don't have to be twenty-five feet from your home -- just your neighbor's home. And the enclosures must be cleaned regularly. No mention of a limit on the number of chickens allowed.

Thanks Karen, I will. I'm getting inspired to keep a few chickens, so I better read up.
How much space do 2 hens need? how big a coop? Do you recommend a place in the East Bay to get chickens, coop, and other supplies?
Thanks!
Hey Chicken Fan,
I haven't taken the plunge - yet - so I can't give much advice. You might want to check out the www.urbanchickens.net blog - you'll find a whole network of Bay Area chicken enthusiasts. Should be some good info and advice there. Best of luck - have fun!
