Today marks the beginning of one of the best Bluegrass Festivals in the world. Planet Bluegrass located Lyons, Colorado hosts the 37th Annual RockyGrass Bluegrass Festival from July 24th - 26th. Besides the renowned musicians headlining the festival such as Sam Bush, Del McCoury Band, Earl Scruggs, Steve Earle and Colorado band Hot Rize; festival goers are treated to the beautiful natural grounds. The St. Vrain River meanders through the expansive area offering festival goers a chance to cool off and dip their feet, swim or go tubing.

Probably though, if you are not aware already, RockyGrass operates as "sustainable festivation" a term coined by Planet Bluegrass which has developed programs that encourage reuse, recycling, and composting at all of their events. They are committed to evaluating their environmental footprint and are focused on methods of reduced energy consumption and waste reduction at each of their musical festivals.

Noteworthy is the fact that Governor Bill Ritter Jr., declared June 23rd as "Colorado Bluegrass Day," honoring Planet Bluegrass for "using renewable energy to help protect our environment while producing a world-class festival."

Not only can attendees to the concert enjoy the music but they can learn a few things about reducing their carbon footprint too.

Other music events and festivals Planet Bluegrass hosts within Colorado are just as environmentally-friendly and fun are the following.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival
Song School
RockyGrass Academy
Folks Festival
Wildflower Concert Series at the Ranch
