Suspicious individual approaches Longridge, Athena students

Last Wednesday, the mother of an Athena Middle School student called 911 after a man approached her son right in their driveway on Maiden Lane as he waited for his bus. The man got out of his vehicle; the boy ran in his house and his mother immediately called the police and alerted the school. By the time she ran outside, the vehicle was speeding away. The boy was able to tell police that the man was bald and Caucasian, wearing a red jacket, and was driving a red/maroon Ford Explorer with gold molding.

At that time, Lt. Jason Helfer, Greece Police, told News 10, "We are very concerned." Police presence was increased, and extra attention was paid to bus stops near schools. Lt. Helfer asked the community to stay calm but vigilant and be aware of any other suspicious activity.

Yesterday, the Greece Central School District released a call to parents alerting them that a Longridge Elementary School student was approached in a similar manner. A young girl reported that a red SUV followed her on her way to her bus stop near Beverly Heights and Willis Ave. The vehicle description is similar to the incident last week; the young girl was not able to give a description of the individual.

Greece Police have again stepped up patrols in the area. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Parents, please take this time to talk to your children about safety, and be alert!
