The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in locating two individuals wanted in connection with abandoning dogs in Marianna, Fla. The dogs were living in what Jackson County Floridan reported on Friday as “deplorable conditions.”
On August 8, Jackson County Animal Control officers were called out to a residence in Marianna. There officers found approximately 40 dogs which had been abandoned, surviving without food or medical treatment for some time. Some of the dogs were already dead. The dogs still alive were surviving by eating the dead dogs. It was their only source of food.
Forty-two counts of animal cruelty have been filed, and arrest warrants have been issued for Heidi Amanda Westman and Leland Emery Kluth. Westman and Kluth are believed to have left the immediate area. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Westman and Kluth are asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 850-482-9648 or Jackson County Crime Stoppers at 850-526-5000.
The surviving dogs were taken in by Animal Control of West Florida Inc. Many have health issues, some serious.
