Monroe, Mich - The investigation into who planted a pipe bomb that injured an Ohio attorney and his two children, ages 11 and 13, appears to be focusing on at least 2 men, one of whom is believed to be from "out of state" according to local reports.
One of the suspects is believed to be the estranged husband of one of Attorney Erik Chappell's clients.
Very little information has been provided thus far.
“All I can say is the investigation is continuing,” Monroe Police Chief Tom Moore said this morning. “We are following up on numerous leads.”
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon while Chappell was driving his boys to football practice. Chappell is also the boys' coach.
The bomb exploded on East Elm Ave near I 75, severely injuring Chappell and his sons.
Chappell was treated and released after surgery at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. The boys remain hospitalized, but are reported to be in good spirits.
Shrapnel from the pipe bomb, including ball bearings, are being analyzed by the ATF.
