An alleged shootout happened Sunday morning with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Three suspects have been apprehended after a car chase from the shootout. No one was hurt as a result of the incident.
The Charlotte Observer reports as of Monday, the CMPD has charged Ramar Crump, Warren Lewis, and Jamel Lewis with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault with a firearm on a government official; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Two officers reported to the scene on North Tryon street by a 911 caller reporting guns being loaded in a car. The initial officers to the scene approached the car, then were fired upon. They returned fire and the suspects fled in their car. The officers gave chase and the suspects were finally stopped and arrested. The investigation is still ongoing.
All three suspects who have been charged have prior records. One of the officers involved was under investigation just last year. Both initial responding officers have been put on administrative leave until the investigation is concluded.
