Suspect shot in theater: Domestic fight leads to police involvement

A suspect was shot in a theater in San Diego while hiding out there after a fight with his girlfriend. On Jan. 13, ABC News reported that 20-year-old Tom Billodeaux was cooperative when first approached by police but then he dropped his hands and "appeared to reach for the gun in his lap."

According to the report, Billodeaux and his girlfriend got in to a fight in the parking lot across the street from the Reading Cinemas Carmel Mountain on Saturday afternoon. After things got physical (Tom was seen "grabbing" his girlfriend and then threatening onlookers with a gun). He then left the scene and escaped to the nearby theater.

The suspect was shot in the theater shortly after the incident. While it is unclear what the fight between Billodeaux and his girlfriend was about, police did find a suicide note at his home. It is believed that Billodeaux confronted his girlfriend -- perhaps about his intended suicide -- who was in her car on a break from her job.

"We were in the movie theater, and the lights turned on and… two cops came through with their guns. Apparently the person they were looking for was in the theater and then gunshots started," said a witness. Many are thankful that things didn't get too out of hand -- the area where this occurred was densely populated and the theater is attached to a "busy" shopping center.

The suspect in the theater was shot in the arm and the chest. The movie theater remains closed at this time. It is unclear when it will reopen.
