The alleged attack occurred around noon in the Tanger 1 section of the outlet mall near the West Elm store, where a man was said to be hiding in one of the stalls. According to Riverhead Town Police, the victim proceeded to exit the restroom before being pushed back into her stall and forced to the ground by her attacker.
Another woman entering the restroom heard the victim’s screams and quickly ran to alert mall personnel.
The suspect, described as a “young looking” black male about 5-foot-6-inches to 5-foot-8-inches, was last seen fleeing the area on foot and heading southbound toward River Road. He was also described as clean-shaven and slim, wearing a dark-colored hoodie sweatshirt.
The Riverhead News-Review reported that the victim sustained “non life-threatening” injuries and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.
Police did not say whether the unidentified male took anything during the attack.
