Sushi Ota: on a roll

A visit to Sushi Ota—if you can get a reservation—makes for a true and traditional sushi experience in San Diego. The crowd at Sushi Ota speaks volumes about the quality of the fish and other Asian delicacies served up in this popular Pacific Beach restaurant.

Japanese tradition is a hallmark of top sushi restaurants. The idea of eating raw fish does not appeal to everyone, but for those who love a good Hamachi roll or some assorted top-notch sashimi, Sushi Ota delivers in San Diego. In addition to the usual cut and hand roll options, look for the Omikasa Chef's Dinner Special which changes daily but always provides good quality, quantity, and value. For those who prefer something off the grill, there are plenty of teriyaki, sukiyaki, yakitori and other cooked entrees from the land of the rising sun.

The American palate is more sophisticated than ever, and as a result, sushi’s popularity continues to soar on a national scale. Sushi Ota was selected as one of 2013 America’s Top Restaurants by Zagat which bases its choices on food, décor, service, and cost. Despite its popularity and its authentic approach to Japanese cuisine, Sushi Ota remains reasonably priced. Service is friendly but can be hurried at times, as the location is small and the demand for seats every night is high.
