Missing Utah mom, Susan Powell has been missing since Monday, and 30 detectives have been searching for her. Susan Powell, 28 went missing a week ago. Friends and family have not heard from Powell, and many believe the case is highly suspicious, including the police.
West Valley City Police Captain Tom McLachlan, “It’s still a missing person case. It's highly suspicious," McLachlan said Friday. "We are putting practically every detective we have on this case."
Susan Powell’s husband, Josh said that he took their two children (ages 2 and 4) camping last weekend and returned Monday night. Temperatures were extremely cold in Utah last weekend...in the low teens.
The police received a call from relatives about the missing family. The police tried to verify Josh Powell's story, but snow had covered the Pony Express Trail area where Powell said they were. Josh would not speak to the media until Thursday night, when he made a tearful plea and said that they missed Susan and wanted her back.
"This is a really difficult time for the family," said Shelby Gifford, a friend who the family and spokeswoman. "They've been really comforted by all of the support. That's something to hang on to right now, and they're very grateful for that."
A candlelight vigil was held Thursday night for Susan Powell in West Valley City.
The police found Susan Powell's purse and cell phone in the home. The family called the police on Monday when Susan Powell didn't show up at her job. No one has heard from Susan since she disappeared, and her parents said would never leave the two children and husband on her own.

The first and only thing I have to say, is, that any husband who has a camera on him for the world to see, and does NOT let us know any physical information about his wife :Height, body type, hair, eye color, where she may have gone, where to look, etc. Obviously DOESN'T care that she is missing and doesn't care for anyone to find her. He is too self-centered to get on camera and plead with the public to look for his wife. He just walked away. That should say it all.
Any one else see the close resemblance to the recently wrapped up Kelly Currin Morris case? Yeah. Sorry, buddy--the husband needs to get bagged & gagged.
Camping with toddlers in subfreezing temps my patootie. She's dead...and hubby killed her. That's why he didn't call the cops as soon as she went missing. That's why her cell phone and bank cards were found in the home.
The name and face of Scott Peterson comes to mind. He went fishing in a boat too small for where he "supposedly" went fishing. This guy went "supposedly" camping in freezing temperatures and two little ones? Watch an exit strategy by this guy, the truth will eventually come out.
you dont take a 2 year old out in that kind of weahter or even
a 4 year old and then sleep (wait in the van) untill you could think up a good story. arrest him and get the case solved the detectives have ways to check the house for blood ,the husband
knows what happened
Wow I am sure glad that there are so many people here who have already solved this case. I think you all need to call your bosses at the laundry to get emergency vacation. Then you can call Utah and ask the police department to deputize you all so you can wrap this thing up immediately. I am sure the 30 detectives working on the case would be so grateful to you all.
Though I am not a detective, it seems highly suspicious that a caring husband and father would take his two young sons to camp in freezing temperatures while the mother is sick at home. And Mrs. Powell left her cell phone and purse still in the residence, where she herself is not. The husband might not have killed her himself, but he could have paid or had someone else do it. The fans running and the wet carpet or floor tell it all. LUMINOL the place to see if a crime was committed there. If a murder took place, in the children's presence, I think it will come out. I think the husband is more than likely guilty of more than just poor judgement. Only time will tell. I pray that Mrs. Powell is found safe for the sake of those children, but sadly I don't think that will be the case.
