I’m sure most of you know about this event already but only a handful have actually participated. This race is a great cause to get the message of early detection and fighting against breast cancer out in the open plus get you up and moving, but the race is so much more.
On April 25, 2010 the 8th annual Mid-Michigan Race for the Cure will be in full swing. This is an all day event starting at 11 a.m. that has an abundance of fun, exciting and informational booths, tables and tents set up all around the capital lawn.
You will hear extremely moving stories from survivors and what they went through to get to the finish line and beat this disease. There will be flyers, pamphlets and doctors there to help educate you exactly on how to catch this disease in the early stages, all the warning signs and how you can help others in need.
There are also games and activities you can participate in for all ages. There are prizes given out all day, and merchandise you can buy as well. Some sponsors that have appealing booths and tents set up are; Meijer, 99.1 WFMK, 97.5 WJIM, Playmakers, Lansing Lugnuts, Grand Traverse Pie Company and Grange Container Service Inc., to name a few.
The race commences at 2 p.m. in front of the Capital Building. You have an option of participating in an adult, student or children’s 5k run/walk (both competitive and non-competitive), 1 mile walk, or the Sleep for a Cure (again available to adults, students and children). Currently the Mid-Michigan Race for the Cure campaign has 603 participants and 83 registered teams.
Seventy-five percent of all proceed go to your local breast cancer foundation and help local foundations find a cure and raise awareness.
