Survivors “will be left to contemplate the outcome”

"As long as the general population is passive, apathetic, diverted to consumerism or hatred of the vulnerable, then the powerful can do as they please, and those who survive will be left to contemplate the outcome.”

Those are the words and analysis of Noam Chomsky. If you don’t know who Chomsky is you owe it to yourself to find out.

The news of the past week alone should be sufficient to convince even the most skeptical that Chomsky like George Orwell before him knew exactly from whence they spoke.

That it’s become obvious in the past weeks is particularly poignant since it includes everything and everyone in the Chomsky quote.

Of course in Texas Red we see “hatred of the vulnerable” on a daily basis it is Texas Red after all. Running a close second, of course, is much of the rest of the nation in particular the slave-state legacy South.

As we near the “mid-term” elections in November, not so very far away, the role of money in the process is much more obvious. This week’s Mississippi turnout is likely instructive. However, in a very Game of Thrones way, it leaves us unsure of what the ultimate outcome will be.

The choice for the fine folk of Mississippi, stronghold of all things slave-state legacy, will be between “the usual suspects” GOPer and the Tea Party guy. The Tea Party I heard just yesterday is believed to represent those White folks who perceive both their numbers and influence waning. Given the history of that collective it is likely a well-founded fear. So, choosing between a less misanthropic demagogic psychopath and an all out “compassionate, conservative Christian” psychopath the choice for the shrinking White folk population of Mississippi and beyond, the choice is obvious. The only question remaining is just how many of that genre are there?

Meanwhile, Bowe Bergdahl is the new Edward Snowden, the warmonger’s traitor de jour. Sergeant Bergdahl’s pillorying at the hands of the “compassionate conservative Christians” and the just plain hateful is to be expected. Robert Naiman of Truthout wrote an excellent article on the reality of the firestorm that’s been created by his release.

Bergdahl is a pawn. He entered military service a very young man, was deployed and saw war for what it really is, became disillusioned and now finds himself back home at the center of a psychotic nation’s wrath.

It is what results when old men send young men off to war. There are very good reasons it works that way. The Wholly Trinity, those in governance, big business and organized religion have complete control.

For “we the people” there is only the illusion of freedom.

The elections are coming. Inform yourself. Let go of petty notions. Think responsibly for the nation and the future even though our only choice is from among those office aspirants who have been vetted and approved by the one-percent “we the people” must make a difference. All we have is each other.

As our Founders knew, if we do not stand together, surely we will hang separately. Ponder on the words and concept of Chomsky.

"As long as the general population is passive, apathetic, diverted to consumerism or hatred of the vulnerable, then the powerful can do as they please, and those who survive will be left to contemplate the outcome.”

From Texas Red: a cratered landscape of for profit prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority population intent on keeping it that way…
