'Survivor: Nicaragua' interview: Yve Rojas explains alliances, strategy

During their time on "Survivor: Nicaragua," Yve Rojas and Kelly Bruno were both competitors. They each tried to make alliances, but also each ultimately fell on the wrong side of things on their tribes. They were thus voted out in two of the sillier decisions we've seen tribes make in some time, since now a major competitor with an idol (Marty) is also left in this game with a liability (Dan).

On Thursday, I had the opportunity to chat with Yve about her time on the show.

Matt: So as someone who has been a fan of the show for quite some time, was there anything that really surprised you out there?

Yve: I would have to say the personalities. On day one, I was flabbergasted at how extremely unique everyone was ... the whole strategizing part was so challeng, much more so than the physical. All of that was a breeze compared to trying to figure out who to trust. I didn't trust anybody out there.

So did the topic of getting rid of NaOnka this week ever come up after she threatened to quit, too?

It didn't and especially towards the end ... that girl has a lot of talent. I really truly believed her when she said I was not going home, and then there were three votes, then four ... I also believed her when she was sick and I had my moment with her in the cold. When I wrote her name down, I trusted Alina.

The next day [NaOnka] got up and moved on. Things change so fast out there.

So did you know it was a red flag when you voted with Tyrone?

For sure! I walked up to NaOnka and Alina and they somewhat made the assumption on appearances that I was Tyrone, which was not true. I never had an alliance with Tyrone -- our conversations were made up of different things.

So what was it like for you watching what was going down on La Flor?

That was really fascinating. I was watching it with friends who had never seen the show before and they were all fascinated. The reasoning behind it was exciting -- I, though, am hoping Marty does extremely well. He has so much passion for the game and I respect that.
