'Survivor: Nicaragua' interview: Jimmy Johnson talks about the 'adventure'

As someone who grew up watching his Dallas Cowboys win two Super Bowls, Jimmy Johnson is a name that has been marked on the chalkboard here for quite some time. He is easily the most famous celebrity "Survivor" has cast in his 21-season history, but on Thursday the former head coach took some time out to answer a few questions for me about his time in Nicaragua.

--

Matt: Hey, Jimmy. How're you doing?

Jimmy: Doing fine.

So did you manage to form any major alliances during your time out there?

I talked to Jane and to Holly and said that I wasn't voting them off, but I said that at this time I wasn't locking in to any strong alliance and I eventually would have gotten to that. I wanted to see who I could bond with and who I could truly trust -- I didn't want to do what Wendy and Holly did initially. They made an alliance and broke it the very first Tribal Council. I wanted to see who I could really trust and bond with before I made an alliance. I probably should have done it a few days earlier.

As somebody who has been a big fan of the game for some time, was there anyone you tried to model your game after?

No, I really couldn't pattern my game after anyone because there hadn't really been any celebrities on here. I mean, Gary Hogeboom was there [in 'Guatemala'] but not that many people knew he was a backup quarterback. I think he might have been under the radar becaue he didn't tell anybody what he did.

So you've said so much about wanting the feeling of 'adventure' out on the show. So during your nine days, did you feel like you go it?

I did, I enjoyed the adventure. I can't say I enjoy all the aspects of it but I enjoyed the experience and I'm glad I did it and accomplished that.
