'Survivor: Nicaragua' interview: Ben 'Benry' Henry talks regrets, key decisions

When it comes to the overall story arc of "Survivor: Nicaragua," Ben "Benry" Henry did not have as much of a role as s Marty or a Brenda. He was largely under-the-radar for most of the game, but began to emerge as a strong physical threat for the past few weeks.

Due to this, the alliance of Chase, Sash, Jane, and Holly all chose to take him out Wednesday night. On Thursday, he chatted with me a bit about his experience.

--

Matt: So were your two alliance buddies in Fabio and Dan doing more strategically than we were shown?

Benry: Yeah, they weren't. That alliance sort of just fell into place during that reward where we went zip-lining and the barbecue. That's when Fabio and I trusted each other. Even throughout the game we had this subliminal alliance where we both had the same strategy. We had eyes and ears everywhere and we were talking to everybody. We didn't have a solid alliance until later in the game.

Do you think that may have ultimately hurt you, since it put a bigger target on your back?

Yes, absolutely. That led to my demise. The whole time I thought I had Chase and Holly in my back pocket. It happened pretty fast, and I definitely got blindsided.

So if you had won the reward challenge as Chase did, would you have taken Sash in an attempt to sway him?

Yes, I would have taken Sash for sure. 100%.

Do you have any specific moments that you regret?

Yeah, those will always be there. There's no reason that all of a sudden I got complacent and put so much trust in some of those guys -- which  was stupid this late in the game. I've got to the point where I could have somehow scrambled and got Jane out. They voted me out because I'm a huge threat, but I never once wore that immunity necklace around my neck ... Jane's got that superhuman strength where she's got immunity around her neck three times. You already know from what Marty said that you don't want to sit next to her in the final three.

Why not get rid of that alliance? That was one of the biggest mistakes I made in the game.

So what will you take from this game the most?

It was beyond anything I expected. I had no idea what I was getting myself into -- I grew up in Denver and live in Hollywood, do well and have a Blackberry glued to my hand.

It couldn't have come at a better time, to get away from my phone and learn a little bit about myself ... I got to know a bunch of cool people. Everyone was completely different.
