'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains' recap: the return of Rupert

Don't you love a double elimination? It means twice the drama, twice the tribal councils, and twice the inflation of Russell's ego in the span of hour.

Immunity part 1

This episode of "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" made me realize, more than anything else, why Rupert was such a great character. The fun pirate from "Pearl Islands" is back! He called Russell "disgusting," cursed about 300 times in the span of an hour, and clearly gave a hoot about staying in the game.

Colby, meanwhile, does not...and thus begins my next rant about how useless this guy was to this season. Wasn't he at one time a physical force? The Hero -- whose next was on the line -- joined Sandra and Russell in dropping out of first immunity challenge early.

Some of the other players also don't have any respect for the game -- such as Danielle and Jerri -- and I wish there was a way to eliminate all of them at one tribal council at once.

In the end, it came down to Parvati and Rupert and the big pirate just couldn't muster the balance with one broken toe.

What was interesting, however, was that Jeff read an immunity idol clue to EVERYONE at the end, meaning that a mad dash would occur soon.

Idols: again!

I immediately love Rupert one hundred times more now than I did at the start of the episode. After Sandra grabbed the idol (and smartly told no one about it), Rupert decided the best way to save himself was to grab a rock and pretend it was an idol bouncing around in his pocket.

In a pure moment of hilarity, Russell actually believed it! I thought this one the "master of idols!" This caused the "evil one" to change his plan, deciding that they would split the vote -- three for Rupert and three for either Candice or Colby. For the Villains, it made sense to get rid of someone who was a bigger strategic threat than someone who literally decided to watch a movie over helping his ally.

Therefore, Rupert's plan worked and Candice ended up going home -- granting him a temporary reprieve. With this, my prediction for a winner is shot. Candice ultimately had the same problem this season as last time -- too indecisive, which leads to no one trusting her.

Immunity part 2

After the vote, Russell actually did admit a fault (which is rare for him), and then promised that he was going to "take control of the game" before anyone damaged him any more. Good luck with that, Russell.

This immunity challenge was a series of physical challenges mixed with some puzzle work. Yet again, Colby completely disappointed everyone and was one of the first people eliminated. Rupert fought hard, and it ended with a final three of Russell, Parvati, and Rupert. With the final task being a puzzle, it ended up being neck-and-neck -- but Russell made good on his promise.

Russell makes a mess

After the challenge, Russell surprisingly changed his mind about Rupert and decided that he instead wanted to get rid of Parvati or Danielle -- why? It's all about control. He then told both members of his "alliance" that he wanted the other one out, and of course Parvati and Danielle talked about it.

At this point, though, Russell makes his biggest mistake of the game so far. Instead of targeting Danielle, he should be going after the queen bee. I don't know what's getting in his way, but something is.messing with his head if he thinks he has a better shot at the end against Parvati than Danielle.

Danielle crying at tribal council is probably the most entertaining thing I've seen her do, but I understand why she's so drained. Unfortunately, she put herself out there by talking openly about an alliance. With that, she was gone.

I'll be frank -- I never really cared that much about Danielle either time she was this show. She's not really a villain, and it seemed more like she was here because Jenna Morasca didn't want to leave Ethan.
