'Survivor' contestant dead: Caleb Bankston dies in train accident

"Survivor: Blood vs. Water" contestant Caleb Bankston is dead at the age of 26. PEOPLE reports that Bankston died after a train he was on derailed. He was working at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham at the time of his death. The actual date of his death has not been confirmed, but the reports began circulating late in the day on June 24, 2014.

Word of Bankston's death spread quickly spread to fans and cast members of the popular reality show. Another "Survivor" contestant, Aras Baskauskas, told PEOPLE on Tuesday that Bankston was "one of the sweetest and most sincere humans" he has ever met.

"Survivor: One World with Cumbie" cast member Sabrina Thompson, remembered Bankston after finding out about his death. "You were instantly drawn to his big smile, warm spirit and Southern charm. May God rest his soul … gone too soon."

Bankston competed in "Survivor: Blood vs. Water" in 2013 with his fiancé, Colton Cumbie. The season filmed in the Philippines, but this time at Palaui Island, Cagayan from May through June 2013. The show premiered on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 and featured returning cast members and their loved ones competing against each other. Bankston came in ninth place in the reality competition.

The next season of "Survivor" is currently filming and will premiere in Fall 2014. "Survivor: San Juan del Sur: Blood vs. Water" will be the 29th season of the reality series that airs on CBS. The new season will be similar (couples) to the "Survivor" show Bankston appeared on, but all of the players will be new to the show.

There is no further information about Bankston's death at this time.
