'Survivor: Cagayan', Episode 5 preview: Drop your buffs

J'Tia had to go. That was the overwhelming consensus from the very first episode of "Survivor: Cagayan," when she was seen ordering around her fellow Brains tribe mates, culminating in her dumping their supply of rice into the fire once she was told she was most likely going home. Somehow, someway, she managed to evade getting voted out, but finally last week, J'Tia was sent packing, leaving only three so-called Brains - Spencer, Kass and Tasha - in the game.

Luckily for them, they will no longer have to suffer together...or will they? This week's episode will feature the season's first tribal shake-up, re-shuffling the remaining 14 contestants onto two brand new tribes of seven. Because CBS no longer seems that interested in preventing spoilers, their new video promo (up or left of the column) reveals to us in a flash what the new tribe make-up is...and it seems that there's no separating our three remaining "brains."

Beware, spoilers ahead as I will break down the new tribes revealed to us in the video promo below. But first, here's the official synopsis for tonight's episode given to us by CBS:

Episode 5 – “Odd One Out” - CASTAWAYS DROP THEIR BUFFS AND FORM TWO NEW TRIBES, ON “SURVIVOR,” WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19. Castaways drop their buffs and form two new tribes. Meanwhile, a decision made on Day 1 could lead to a castaway’s elimination and the battle for immunity proves which new tribe has the most Brawn, on SURVIVOR, Wednesday, March 19 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Analysis. So a quick eye (and a pause button) reveals the following new tribes: One tribe consists of LJ, Tony, Cliff, Lindsey, Woo, Jefra and Trish. The other, we see Sarah, Morgan, Alexis and Jeremiah on a tribe with all three brains, Spencer, Kass and Tasha.

So as luck would have it, five of the existing six Brawn tribe members end up on the same tribe...which can't bode well for LJ and Jefra, who instantly become a minority on their new tribe. LJ still has the Idol, so Jefra seems really vulnerable should this tribe lose the next challenge...but with all of the Brawn on their tribe, it seems unlikely that this group will be going to Tribal.

The other group should be real interesting, as shown in the promo video. Sarah is now the lone Brawn member of the group, but she joins Beauties Morgan, Alexis and Jeremiah. We know that Morgan had been on the outs with her former group, so it will be interesting to see where her new loyalties lie. Will she stay true to Alexis and Jeremiah, who need her now more than ever? Or will she be looking for a firmer group of allies?

Also interesting to watch: Will Spencer keep his word to Tasha from last week? If so, Spencer, Tasha and Kass can be considered a solid three and they would only need one other person to join them to have the numbers. Could that be Sarah?

It could be, but another dynamic revealed in the video is that Alexis seems to approach the three Brains looking to "jump ship." That proactive move could save her skin, which would signal that Jeremiah possibly goes home, or it could make her the first target of the new group.

Switch-up episodes are always among the best of the season, as the decisions made during them often blaze the path that the rest of the season will take. What do you think will happen tonight? Post your comments below!
