Surviving High School a top iPhone app

Surviving High School is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that is currently a top app download on iTunes.  It is currently on sale for $3 on iTunes and also delivers in app purchases for $1 each as add on content.  It is a solid app as is but the add ons are not worth the money.

The main game of Surviving High School makes you a transfer to a new high school where you live out your life as a high school student.  The life is open ended and allows you to make decisions to change your path.  You can be a football player or bookworm, a Goth or a preppy cool kid, it’s all up to you.  You can also determine how much time you want to devote to studies to improve grades, working out to improve your football skills, or watching TV to improve popularity.

The story is well written and executed,  with an interesting format.  I like the touch control scheme. There is a learning curve for the controls but once you learn it the game becomes a great experience.  The mini games that make up the activities of the app like football games or dating are all fun to play.  The graphics look cartoonish and colorful.  The music on the other hand is campy and I’d recommend using your own soundtrack from the iPod rather than the game’s.

All in all, Surviving High School is a pretty good app for $3.  I also played some of the paid content and while it’s not nearly as good as the rest, there’s also free content added every week too.   There is also a free version of the game which is basically a demo that I’d  recommend playing before buying the full version. If you had any fond memories of high school, you’ll probably love Surviving High School.
