Survey: Most Americans don’t have big vacation dreams

Most Americans say they enjoy traveling and that their goals include incredible travel plans. But according to a recent Capital One (NYSE: COF) survey, more than half (58 percent) say they have no specific travel bucket list of places they’d like to vacation during their lives.

As the cliché goes, the first step to achieving a goal is to write it down. Capital One hopes that people do just that when it comes to creating travel bucket lists filled with dream destinations.

The Venture Card enables travelers to get double miles on every purchase. Consumers can use those miles for any travel expense.

Several popular U.S. travel destinations topped the average American’s bucket list, the survey found. As it turns out, four out of the five top destinations can be found in the United States with Hawaii (57 percent) at the top followed by the Grand Canyon (38 percent), Niagara Falls (35 percent) and New York City (33 percent). The top international choice was the Great Barrier Reef in Australia (34 percent). And, according to the survey, those who do not have a bucket list in mind haven’t checked off any of the dream vacations on their list.

“I have done a great deal of traveling but there are definitely some places on my travel bucket list that I am eager to check off,” said avid traveler and rewards card expert Jason Steele. “With double miles and no foreign transaction fee, the Capital One Venture Card makes it easy for me to do what I love and I’m excited to continue crossing off destinations on my bucket list.”

The Capital One Venture Card hopes to start an interactive conversation with people about their travel goals, because they want to help make their travel hopes a certainty. The Venture #BucketList campaign is asking people to tweet their travel bucket list goals using #BucketList.
