Many people who suffer with mental illness are in denial or unaware and refuse to get help but surrendering to treatment may be the difference between life and death.

Mental illnesses are still not fully understood. Only the person who is experiencing symptoms or family members who witness the behaviors of someone with mental illness know exactly what they are going through.

Genetics are one factor that can cause a mental illness and environmental factors are another. When both aspects come into play, the illness is often times worse.

There are different treatments out there for people who are suffering. Behavioral therapy and talk therapy are very helpful and can get some people on the right track however for some medication is required as part of the healing process or for long-term ongoing treatment.

Before receiving treatment, one must accept they need help and want to get help, which is the most difficult part for someone with mental illness.

Even many celebrities struggle with mental illness and unfortunately, some have committed suicide because of lack of treatment.

Lee Thompson Young who played on the hit series Rizzoli & Isles suffered from Bipolar disorder and although he did seek treatment at one point, he still ended up committing suicide.

Micah S. Katt Williams better known as Katt Williams, an actor and comedian, reportedly was diagnosed Bipolar Schizophrenic in 2008 after spending two weeks in a mental institution. Regrettably, Katt Williams is not currently receiving treatment for his disorder and has had many run-ins with the law during his episodes.

People with mental illnesses want to hold on to the idea that they can control it. Some will self-medicate with recreational drugs and alcohol but those only make their symptoms worse.

At some point, one must submit and seek professional help. People who have mental illness can get to a depressive state of mind where they see no other way out but death and that is not what they would want to do if they were well.

It is highly recommended that if you or someone you know is suffering from any form of mental illness to get professional medical attention as soon as possible to start some sort of treatment.

Even if your illness requires medication during therapy, do not allow anyone to stop you including yourself from doing whatever it takes to keep your mind right. Your life is important and all you may need is a little support to find yourself and your purpose.
