Surprises are always welcome, especially when they come in a musical form; the latest show at Lestat’s was just such an occasion. Arriving to see an artist perform only to find out he is accompanying another is the equivalent of the vending machine giving you a two for one deal. The intimate show on Wednesday 3/5/14 began with a newcomer to the musical scene, Good as New. This little lady performed her first opening act ever on stage as she shared her whimsical, offbeat sound with an all original play list. The in between act was a new to San Diego fella, Mike Genovese. With his boyish good looks and upbeat tempo songs, Mike moved the crowd out of their hump day funk and revved them up for Sierra Scott. Sierra Scott’s headlining performance featured local favorite Mason James accompanying. The soft spoken Scott strummed the guitar and sang original songs as well as some new chart toping covers that included “Royals” and “Thrift Shop”. The laid back atmosphere that the duet created welcomed the audience to comment and interact with them. After the show the groups mingled like old friends and chatted about upcoming events to look out for; including a show at Lestat’s on 3/17 I was told is not to be missed.
